PHYSICAL PRODUCT — McDonald: Manufacturing Methods – 2022
The Track Star slides were born from the nostalgia of competitive high school track. Given the challenge of designing for and from a memory, the shoes gained inspiration from the therapeutic comfort of skin against warm turf after the exhaustion of a track meet. This was a basic exercise in CMF design.
The slides were intended to instill nostalgia in the wearer, as well as provide comfort and relaxation for the body. The shoe needed to have structure for wearability, while maintaining a lightweight, open form for breathability. The base of the shoe pays homage to the classic running track, matching its texture, color, and racing lanes. The top silhouette of the slide references the racer-back track jersey, and the sole incorporates synthetic turf to evoke notions of walking along a football field.
