Hey! My name is Mya (pronounced Mia) Nguyen (I’m still learning to pronounce this one too) and I’m a 25 year old multi-disciplinary designer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. My favorite parts of design are its diversity, the opportunity for constant progress and improvement through the iterative process, and the sense of community it fosters. I love to learn and strive to teach myself something new through each project.

I have a very eclectic set of interests, and started out in computer coding, which taught me a lot about problem solving. But what computer coding was missing, that I found in design, was in-depth problem understanding and consideration for the people affected by the problems.

Growing up raising my 4 siblings with my single mom has given me so much compassion and gratitude for the underrepresented, and I strive to understand and tell stories about people who have felt othered—through design. Though my emphasis in school focused on digital product design, somewhere along my academic journey I found myself equally passionate about textile-based and soft-goods design.
